About 650,000 tickets to the film were sold in Hungary, beating the previous record set by Mamma Mia!.
The second-most-popular film in Hungary last year was Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which drew 491,000 film-goers, generating box office receipts of HUF 527 million. Avatar was in third place, bringing 370,000 people to cinemas and generating receipts of HUF 512 million, despite opening in December.
Ice Age 3 and Avatar were both screened in three-dimensional versions.
The only Hungarian film that made it into the top ten list was director Gábor Herendi's A Kind of America 2, grossing HUF 277 million and drawing 268,000 film-goers.
