The road leading to the abbey has been reinforced and repaved, new lighting has been installed in the square in front of the main entrance, a path with benches has been built around the abbey, seating has been installed in an area used for open-air events, and a new drainage system has been installed in the abbey's courtyard, project manager Béla Vajdovich said.
The abbey contributed just HUF 9 million to the project. A further HUF 345 million in regional development subsidies co-financed by the European Union covered the rest, Vajdovich said.
The abbey was included on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1996.
