Gauri Shankar Gupta, India?s Ambassador to Hungary, will speak at the opening of the centre. Afterward, the cultural centre?s director Zoltán Leveles, will carry out a traditional puja religious ritual. The programme will continue with a performance by the guitar and sitar duo of Szabolcs Tóth and Szabolcs Fülöp and demonstrations of traditional Indian dance by Réka Túri Vírágh, Dóra Bittner Meenakshi and the centre?s director.
Bittner Meenakshi says classical Indian dance is established on elements of theatre, of facial expression and of hand gestures. ?Theatre and dance had not yet separated from each other in this archaic theatre form,? she explains.
More and more people are learning classical Indian dance in Hungary, and the Bharata centre seeks to encourage the trend.
Although few people know the special language of the dance, it can still be enjoyed by all, says Bittner Meenakshi. ?You don?t have to make special preparations for a show like this,? she added.
In addition to dance workshops, the Bharata will offer concerts, yoga courses and classes in Ayurvedic massage. At the weekends, the centre will have Indian bazaars and programmes for children.
A vegetarian bistro will operate in the centre.
