A total of 134 items will go on sale on April 11, for starting prices between 40,000 forints and 2.4 million forints, Koncz said. The collection includes many works by famous Hungarian artists, such as Bela Kadar, Lajos Kassak and Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, plus paintings by Eastern European and French artists including Sonia Delaunay and Jean Cocteau.
Soros accumulated the collection in 1997 and said he would use the income from the auction for charitable purposes including cultural programmes in Hungary.
The auction will be held at the Budapest Congress Centre and the works are on display at the Judit Virag Gallery until April 10.
