Süsü, the legendary dragon, was sent on his way more than 25 years ago by István Csukás. Süsü is a big hulking, good-hearted dragon who was disowned by his father. On his first encounter with humans, he caused a panic, but soon became the object of universal affection. He had a secret wish to marry the Princess, but this didn?t work out, so he became the Main-Main King?s Dragon. His harmless advances and his lovable figure have made him a favourite of children and adults alike. The story was made into a unique puppet film which was very successful. International festival prizes, gold and platinum records followed.
István Csukás: Pom Pom meséi (Tales of Pom Pom)
Illustrated by Ferenc Sajdik
Gesta Ltd., Budapest, 2004
96 p. with 114 coloured sketches
István Csukás, the popular Kossuth Prize winner and author of fairy tales, has given us a lot of heart-warming heroes from Süsü the Dragon to the Big Fish ? fish ? fisherman. In this story-book we can follow the characters Picur (Tini-tot) and Pom Pom?s funny adventures.
We really don?t know who Pom Pom is; he looks like a fur cap. When Picur (Tini-tot) is leaving for school, Pom Pom jumps on her head telling tales about odd persons, about Dumpy Arthur, about the clever big bird, who loves any kind of chocolate. In his tales, characters have got ?telling names? such as Bungie Spider, or Slug Catching Bird Guard.
