Each book: 32 p., fully illustrated. Age: 1-4
Who doesn?t remember Annabelle and Bombury, her teddy bear? Veronika Marék wrote and drew these characters in the 70s, 30 years ago, and they became children?s favourites. Now, these same children - now adults with little children of their own ? carry their love for these books to today?s children, who seem to love them just as much. These are everyday stories well known to all kids. The easy dialogues and charming characteristic figures and illustrations are Veronika Marék?s ?trademarks?. After republishing the five classic volumes of the original series, Pagony Books has published two brand new Bombury books.
Veronika Marék: Boribon és Annipanni (Bombury and Annabelle)
In the first book, Bombury the little bear sets out to collect strawberries ? but instead of strawberries he finds a round straw-hat, a blue shirt and a pair of red shoes. Annabelle, on the other hand, can?t seem to find her hat, shirt and shoes. But she knows where to collect strawberries...
Veronika Marék: Jó éjszakát, Annipanni! (Good Night, Annabelle!)
In this tale Bombury and Annabelle find a kitten. They take it home and the kitten has dinner with them, they bathe together, and it even listens to the bedtime story. Annabelle forgets to put her to bed, but maybe it wants to stay for the night...
Veronika Marék: Boribon születésnapja (Bombury?s Birthday)
Why does Annabelle put on her nicest dress? Why does she bake a cake? Why does she pick flowers? Why are all these people coming? And why does she always give the same answer: it?s a secret! In the end, of course, the secret is revealed: it?s Bombury?s birthday.
Veronika Marék: Boribon és a 7 lufi! (Bombury and the 7 Balloons)
One rainy day Bombury gets seven nice balloons from Annabelle ? a red, an orange, a yellow, a green, a dark blue, a light blue and a purple one. Unfortunately, the balloons soon burst, one after the other. Only the red one remains. Bombury gives his last balloon to a rabbit who always dreamed of such a nice red balloon. Bombury is out of balloons now ? but look: the sun is shining again and there is the rainbow on the sky with all the colours of the seven lost balloons.
Veronika Marék: Annipanni, hull a hó! (Annabelle, it?s Snowing!)
In this winter story, Bombury, the little bear, and Annabelle go out to play in the snow, to go sliding and sledging. They also build a snowman and Bombury likes it so much that he doesn?t want to leave it there.
Veronika Marék: Boribon beteg (Bombury is Ill)
Bombury gets ill ? as every kid does from time to time. He has a fever and the doctor comes for a visit. The doctor prescribes some medication and Bombury has to stay in bed. Naturally Bombury is not very happy about this, but Annabelle reads to him, does a puppet show for him and even promises an excursion to cheer the little bear up.
Veronika Marék: Boribon kirándul (Bombury Takes a Walk)
Bombury and Annabelle set out for an excursion to visit the strange rock on the hill just above their house. Getting there by the steep paths is not easy, but even more difficult is going down slowly on the way back.
Judit Berg: Panka és Csiribí ? Micsoda nap! (Penny and Charm ? What a day!)
Illustrated by Panka Pásztohy
Pozsonyi Pagony Books, Budapest, 2006
48 p., Age: 3-8
What happens when the fog decides to fool the sun and sit on the forest forever? Is a tiny fairy-girl able to rescue her friend from the hands of a weasel? Is making hot chocolate too difficult a job for a clever fairy-boy? Why is the mast of a walnut-ship of the greatest importance when it?s pouring rain? The adventures of Panka (Penny) and Csiribí (Charm) in What a Day! reveals the answers to all these questions and more.
The book features the amusing adventures of the two little fairies in all kinds of weather: wind, sun, rain, fog and snow. The charming illustrations of Panka Pásztohy and the wonderful, humorous stories and easy-to-read dialogues by Judit Berg make this enchanting book a favourite of children aged 3-8.
The forthcoming Penny and Charm books (each including 5-6 tales) will cover the following topics: vehicles and transport, jobs, birds, musical instruments and much more.
Boglárka Paulovkin: A katicabogár elveszett pöttyei (The Lost Spots of the Ladybird)
Illustrated by the author
Pozsonyi Pagony Books, Budapest, 2006
40 p., fully illustrated. Age: 1-4
This charming book by one of the most promising young Hungarian illustrators is about a ladybird that lost its spots in the lake. The lake animals (the frog, the water spider, the wild duck, the carp and after some persuasion even the morose catfish) help the sad ladybird find her lost spots.
In this book the children learn about lake animals, practice counting and are able to be happy and sad together with the ladybird.
