Along with the award, Bollók will have the chance to shoot a short film in Mexico.
Iska's Journey shows the difficulties of life growing up on the streets. Bollók shot the film in the autumn of 2005 after researching the lives of homeless children living in a mining region in the Southern Carpathians for four years. The film won the top award at the 38th Hungarian Film Week in February.
Iska's Journey was well received by the audience at the festival as well as by the jury. Film Union's Katalin Vajda noted that locals could identify very well with the film, regardless of the film's location.
From Monterrey, Bollók will travel to Sarajevo for the 13th Sarajevo Film Festival. Iska's Journey will compete for the Heart of Sarajevo award, and Bollók will give a talk entitled In Search of Regional Identity.
The North American premiere of Iska's Journey will take place at the Toronto International Film Festival, slated for September 6-15.
