The ?Hope? memorial park was inaugurated on the 21st anniversary of the establishment of the Béke-Shalom Friendship Society. It is the site of the city?s Holocaust memorial, which bears the names of 868 Jewish citizens who were taken to concentration camps in 1944.
Ilan Mor praised the work of the Béke-Shalom Friendship Society for contributing to better understanding of Hungary and Israel and assisting cooperation between citizens from both countries. He said it was important for people to know that ?Israel is not just about the crisis in the Middle East?, pointing out the country?s cultural values, as well as its pharmaceutical and machinery industries. These are the areas people must get to know for their image of Israel to change, he added.
Zalaegerszeg Mayor Csaba Gyutai also acknowledged the work of the Béke-Shalom Friendship Society in the city?s cultural life.
