Italian Pavese Prize awarded to Nobel-laureate Hungarian writer

English

Imre Kertesz

The awarding ceremony was held in north Italy's Santo Stefano Belbo, Pavese's home town, on Sunday. Kertesz, who is residing in Berlin, could not personally attend the event for health reasons but joined in over the phone.

Affected deeply by the honour Kertesz said it had been Pavese's works that prompted him to start learning Italian so as to become more familiar with Italian literature.

The Grinzano-Cesare Pavese Prizes have been awarded for the 25th time.
