Cecchi, whose costumes have been worn by stars such as Sean Connery, Richard Gere, Michelle Pfeiffer, Julia Ormond, Alfred Molina and Rutger Hauer, is equally at home on the film set as the opera stage.

The set design for Don Giovanni was inspired by the Renaissance Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza, Italy. Inaugurated in 1585, it is the oldest surviving enclosed theatre in the world.

Zoltán Juhász, in charge of set design for the Hungarian States Opera, said the audience would see a simplified replica of the Teatro Olimpico, and one with moveable parts.

The production of Don Giovanni was made in cooperation with the Teatro Olimpico.

The Hungarian State Opera will use the same set for performances of The Marriage of Figaro and Cosi fan tutte.

Cecchi arrived in Hungary on September 28 and will stay until the premiere of the production of Don Giovanni on November 19.
