English

Fischer, who is musical director of the Budapest Festival Orchestra and has a two-year appointment as principal conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington D.C., won a Gramophone award - considered by many to be the Oscars of the classical music world - for his recording with the BFO of Bartók's The Miraculous Mandarin ten years ago.

Fischer is one of ten nominations for the Artist of the Year award. Winners of the Gramophone awards will be announced at a gala in London on September 25.
