Jamboree Brings Blues to Five Hungarian Cities

Karen Carroll started her career in gospel music at age 6 and later learned guitar from Robert Allen and Nate Griffen. Thanks to these excellent teachers, she has had the opportunity to perform together with Lonnie Brooks, Albert King and the Freeman Bros. Her mother, Jeanne Carroll, who recently toured Hungary and other countries in the region, also helped pave the way for her career. In addition to performing with her mother's band - her stage debut - Caroll has performed with Katie Webster and Lurrie Bell, and, most recently, with the Mississippi Grave Diggers.

Sharrie Williams is considered the uncrowned queen of soul, funk and gospel. Her musical style has its roots in gospel choirs, but a difficult childhood as an orphan gave her an understanding of the blues. Her unique style has been influenced by Tina Turner, Etta James, KoKo Taylor and Billie Holiday. She has performed together with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Buddy Guy, Larry McCray, KoKo Taylor, Bobby Blue Bland, Joanna Conner, Delbert McClinton, Debra Coleman, Shemika Copland, Charlie Musselwhite, Taj Mahal and Honey Boy Edwards.
