Szabó's performance was timed to coincide with the opening of an exhibition of work by contemporary artists from Pécs. The show was opened by Ferenc Csák, state secretary in charge of international relations at the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Dániel Szabó is the son of two musicians and started to play the piano at the age of four. He was a student at the Martyn Free School of the Arts in Pécs, where he was learnt both classical and jazz.

At his concert in Brussels, Szabó played jazz, pieces by contemporary composers and other music that showed the musical culture of Central and Eastern Europe, as well as his own compositions.

Before the concert, Szabó told his audience he didn't know exactly what he would play, but that "it would turn out in the course of the evening". He conceded that the situation was different when he played as a member of a trio, but now he was "just paired up with the piano" and felt entirely at ease.
