Jazz Spring 2006 To Feature International Collaborations

April 7 will be dedicated to mainstream jazz and feature some of Hungary?s most sought-after musicians performing together with guest performers from Europe and America. The Róbert Szakcsi Lakatos Trio, with founder Róbert Szakcsi Lakatos on piano, József Barcza Horváth on bass and Belgian?s Dré Pallemaerts on drums, will play with US tenor saxophonist Rick Margitza, who played with Miles Davis?s last band, and Hungarian singer Nikoletta Szőke, a Montreaux festival winner.

April 8 will be devoted to ethno-jazz, with Hungary?s Tin-Tin Quartet joining up with Nandkishor Muley, one of India?s most renowned santur players. Two members of the Tin-Tin Quartet, Péter Szalai and Iván Nyusztai, spent several years in India studying and learning to play the country?s music. Also joining the performance will be trumpeter and composer Kornél Fekete-Kovács, the founder of the Modern Art Orchestra.

April 9 will showcase Cuban rhythms and Latin jazz by the phenomenal singer Elsa Valle and her Latin Jazz Syndicate. The band features Hungarian saxophonist Kristóf Bacsó, trumpeter István Fekete and guitarist Gyula Babos. They will be joined by Cubans Omar Rodriguez Calvo on bass, Armando Valle on percussion and Ramon Valle on piano.

April 10 will conclude the Jazz Spring 2006 festival with a concert by three percussionists from Hungary, Italy and Bulgaria. Percussion Project first appeared in Hungary to great acclaim in 2005. The group includes veteran Hungarian percussionist Kornél Horváth, Carlo Rizzo from Italy and Stoyan Yankoulov from Bulgaria. The will be joined by violinist Zoltán Lantos and pianist Béla Szakcsi Lakatos, a winner of the Kossuth Prize, Hungary?s highest award for artists.
