Both the Collegium Hungaricum and the Berlin Gallery are hosting shows of work by the Hungarian writer, poet and artist.
Collegium Hungaricum director János Can Togay said the two exhibitions were taking place at the same time because one show would not have been enough to present Kassák?s work.
?We wanted to have an additional venue that was more integrated in the German capital?s cultural life than the Collegium Hungaricum,? he added.
The Berlin Gallery only shows artists who have a direct link with German capital, and Kassák maintained many connections with the Berlin literary and art community even before he visited the city in 1922, Can Togay said.
The two exhibitions showcase Kassák?s oeuvre from two aspects. The Berlin Gallery?s ?Lajos Kassák ? Ambassador of the Avant-garde? shows Kassák works never before seen by the public together with pieces by his contemporaries.
The Collegium Hungaricum presents an interactive multimedia exhibition entitled ?Manifest: Kassák!? which takes visitors through the artist?s life work.
Both exhibitions were organised with the cooperation of Edit Sasvári, who heads the Kassák Museum in Budapest, and Veronika Sós Baksa, head of the Moholy-Nagy Gallery, Can Togay said. The co-curator was Berlin resident Franciska Zólyom, he added.
