Kisvárda Hosts Ethnic Hungarian Theatre Festival

The Castle Theatre of Kisvárda

Productions will take place at the Arts House, Castle Stage, Rákóczi Studio Hall and, for the first time, at an open-air stage in the city's main square and a coffee shop close to the Arts House.

 
In addition to troupes from Hungary, ethnic Hungarian theatres from Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Ukraine will perform. The Berehove (Ukraine) troupe will perform the opening play Liliomfi, by Ede Szigligeti. The festival will close on June 28 with the premiere of Masters and Students, a play written by Kata Gyarmati and directed by Zoltán Puskás "on-site" during the course of the ten days.
 
Other plays on the festival programme include The Marriage of Figaro, George and Lennie, Hüvelykmatyi, Hyppolit, the Servant (Hyppolit, a lakáj), The Pál Street Boys (Pál utcai fiúk), Rocky Horror Show, Sad Sunday (Szomorú vasárnap) and Urbi et orbi.
 
The actors Juli Básti, György Cserhalmi, Dorottya Udvaros, and János Kulka will join the jazz musician László Dés at the awards gala on the Castle stage on June 28.
 
The jury for this year's festival includes Róbert Alföldi, Enikő Eszenyi, István Nánay, Péter Horváth, and László Sáry.
