The event, open free of charge to the public, was organised to mark the 125th anniversary of the composer's birth. Opened by the Academy's rector András Batta and the Ministry of Education and Culture's Márta Schneider, the programme started at ten o'clock in the morning with a performance of Te Deum by the Debrecen Kodály Choir and Radio Orchestra under the baton of Tamás Vásáry. More than 40 works were performed during the course of the day which ended with a performance of Psalmus Hungaricus by the National Philharmonic Orchestra and the Budapest Choir conducted by Zoltán Kocsis at nine in the evening.
