The 16th Zemplén Festival is being held in 15 towns and villages in NE Hungary on August 10-19.
A performance of Kodály's The Spinners by the Ernő Dohnányi Symphonic Orchestra of Budafok will open the festival in the city of Sárospatak.
In honour of Saint Elisabeth, Arvo Pärt's Te Deum will be performed in the catholic church of Sárospatak on August 14.
On August 15, the premiere of a dance performance called Metamorphoses, choreographed by Zoltán Zsuráfszky and based on Kodály's variations on the Hungarian folk song The Peacock, will take place at an unlikely venue: the tractor garage of the Disznókő vineyards, which are said to have excellent acoustics.
The 16th Zemplén Festival boasts some 50 events at 30 venues in the region, among them the castles of Sárospatak and Szerencs, the Tokaj Cultural Centre and the synagogue of Sátoraljaújhely.
