Called Colour, Light, Brilliance - an oeuvre exhibition of Ödön Márffy, the show fills two floors and reveals the entire scope of everything that happened in Europe in the 20th century. But the stress is on his paintings from the 30s, when his work was more mature and his subject matter included the circus, the area around Lake Como and Csinszka, his wife and the widow of the famous Hungarian poet Ady.
"While his remarkable lifework includes several creative periods, a sensitive use of colour, a modern vision, a French elegance and a rich painterliness came to be permanent hallmarks of his individual mode of expression," KOGART says of the exhibition.
The exhibition clearly shows the influence of Matisse and Cézanne - two artists Márffy met when starting out in Paris - on his later work.
The curator of the exhibition is Zoltán Rockenbauer, who has written several volumes on Márffy's works. He has included more than a hundred works in the show on loan from more than 50 owners.
The show runs until August 1, 2010.
