Korean Cultural Centre Opens in Budapest

The Korean Cultural Centre was opened by Korean Ambassador to Hungary H. E. Nam Gwan-pyo and Korean Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism Choi Kwang-sik. Hungarian National Resources Minister Miklós Réthelyi also spoke at the opening.
 
The opening featured an offering by the Korean Traditional Performance Art Centre, a concert by students of the Liszt Music Academy, a recital of Korean and Hungarian folk songs, and a display of taekowndo.
 
The centre, in District XII, has a library with some 3,000 books and multimedia, a tea salon, an exhibition of Korean handicrafts and an arts hall outfitted with audio and visual equipment. It offers visitors instruction in Korean language and cooking, shows films and presents the dance, music and sport of the country.
 
Hungary was the first Eastern European country to establish ties with Korea in 1989. The two countries have an inter-government agreement on culture and eudcation under which concrete cooperation is laid out every two years.
