György Kurtág |
The Savaria Symphony Orchestra will perform the Hungarian premiere of Kurtág?s Colinda-Balada at the festival. The Cluj Napoca Philharmonic Chorus, from the city in Romania where the piece was first performed, will sing and the philharmonic?s conductor Cornel Groza will take the baton.
Another highlight on the programme will be the opening concert, at which Bartók?s Cantata Profana will be performed.
The reputation of the two-week festival and seminar has grown and it now draws participants from all over the world. John Cage once came, and returning participants include György Kurtág, Péter Eötvös, Imre Rohmann from the Mozarteum in Salzburg, György Pauk from the Royal Academy of Music in London and the well known director Zoltán Peskó.
?The Bartók Festival and Seminar has always had an extraordinarily high level of professionalism,? said Pauk, who is leading the violin master class again. ?I think it?s important that the name and work of Bartók is the focus of the festival. This composer is one of the greatest of the 20th century ? he happens to be very popular in the UK ? and also of personal importance to me,? he added.
