Latest Technology to Speed Up Statue Renovation

English

State Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Culture Márta Schneider, speaking after talks in Cluj, said the renovation of the statue could have taken as long as two years, as work on-site could only be undertaken during the summer months. But Hungary has offered to provide the latest technology for the project, speeding it up to see the work restored to its former glory by the end of the year.

A detailed schedule and a budget for the renovation of the statue will be drawn up in the coming weeks.

Hungary and Romania have agreed to share the cost of the renovation in equal part.

King Matthias, whose coronation took place 550 years ago this year, was born in Cluj. The statue, by János Fadrusz, was erected in 1902, when Cluj was still part of Hungary.
