The prize is presented each year to one person who offers an extraordinary example of offering years of voluntary service to the public.
?László Benkő has selflessly helped those in need for years. The Hungarian Association of Lions Clubs is just one of those organisations whose members have experienced this musician?s tireless charity work,? the organisation said.
Benkő was presented a statuette by the sculptor Iván Paulikovics and a certificate. The acknowledgment comes with no cash prize or other reward.
Lions Clubs International, an organisation of some 46,000 service clubs with a million and a half members in 2006 countries, is almost a hundred years old. The Hungarian chapter raises about 200 million forints a year to help those in need.
