Liszt Statue Inaugurated in Carpathian Ruthenia

The inauguration marked the end of the Liszt Year in Carpathian Ruthenia, a celebration of the 200th anniversary of his birth.
 
The statue was erected in front of a castle earlier owned by Count Nándor Plotényi, a friend of Liszt?s and also a musician.
 
The statue was inaugurated by Hungarian consul general in Uzhhorod József Bacskai and deputy governor of Carpathian Ruthenia Andrij Serbaylo.
 
Serbaylo noted that Liszt regularly visited the region and had been inspired to write at least six compositions because of historical events their.
 
The statue is the work of the Ruthenian artist Mihajlo Beleny.
