Liszt Steinway Restored for Anniversary

English

Steinway and Sons presented the piano to Liszt as a gift in 1838 and also restored it using original parts.

The project was supported by Hungary?s National Resources Ministry, the region of Lombardy, and Publitalia80, the advertising agency of the Mediaset group.

The restored piano was inaugurated at a concert attended by Hungarian State Secretary for Culture Géza Szőcs.

The piano was used by Liszt for concerts at La Scala in 1837-38. It was later taken to the villa of Liszt?s granddaughter, Daniela von Bülow. Von Bülow left the instrument to the La Scala Museum.

Another piano once owned by Liszt is in the cloister of Santa Maria del Rosario in Rome, but it may not be viewed by the public.
