The exhibiting artists are Simon Callery, who has already exhibited his works at the Tate Modern; the German-born Lothar Götz, whose vast murals can be found in a number of institutions and galleries across Europe; Estelle Thompson and Rose Davey, who use intimate, and at the same time vivid and intensive, colour fields; Jane Bustin, who mixes her visual statements with literary and philosophical allegations; Károly Keserü and Tamás Jovánovics, the two Hungarians at the exhibition, who play with the indeterminacy of the picture surface, producing a tension through their investigations into repetition and archetypal decoration; and Dillwyn Smith, who experiments with downright invisible homeopathic essences in his lyric abstract canvases, which he both weaves and paints on to produce a collage-like effect.
London-based Artists Show in Budapest
English
The exhibition is the result of cooperation between the B55 Gallery, the Hungarian Olympic Committee, the Magic Lamp Foundation and the British Council.
With the exhibition, as well as an art contest and the fulfilment of a wish submitted by the Magic Lamp Foundation, the British Council seeks to ?raise public awareness of the importance of the arts, sport, social responsibility and diversity?
?The exhibition provides an exciting selection from the paintings of London-based artists of diverse ethnicity and age. Speaking a varied but simple visual language, these works explore the dynamics of colour, light, space and matter,? according to the gallery?s website.
The exhibition, called Back and Forth ? 8 Artists From London, can be seen until March 17, 2012.
