Kurt Masur was made principal conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra in 2000. Before that, he was musical director of the New York Philharmonic and conductor of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. Masur has conducted on over 130 recordings, including works by Brahms, Bruckner, Mendelssohn, Schumann and Tchaikovsky, as well as all of the Beethoven symphonies.
In addition to his contribution to music, Masur played an important role as an intermediary between the people and the state of the German Democratic Republic during anti-government protests in 1989.
The London Philharmonic Orchestra will play in the Bartók National Concert Hall at 19:30 on October 26, 2006. The programme will include Mendelssohn?s Hebrides overture, op. 26; Schumann?s piano concerto in A minor with soloist Helen Huang; and
Brahms?s Symphony No. 2 in D major, op.73.
