The programme will include Mendelssohn?s Hebrides Overture, Schumann?s Piano Concerto in A Minor, with soloist Helen Huang, and Brahms?s Second Symphony.

Masur was made principal conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra in 2000. Before that, he was musical director of the New York Philharmonic and conductor of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. Masur has conducted on over 130 recordings, including works by Brahms, Bruckner, Mendelssohn, Schumann and Tchaikovsky, as well as all of the Beethoven symphonies.

In addition to his contribution to music, Masur played an important role as an intermediary between the people and the state of the German Democratic Republic during anti-government protests in 1989.

The 24-year-old Huang was born in Japan to Chinese parents, but educated in the United States. Since her 1995 debut with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, also conducted by Masur, Huang has played with some of the world?s best orchestras. Her recordings of Mozart and Beethoven piano concertos with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra have been praised by critics.

In 2004, Huang was the winner of the Arthur Rubinstein Award.
