The festival's organisers are mulling plans to move Mediawave to nearby Szombathely or Komárom after Mayor Zsolt Borkai said the HUF 40 million the city spent on the festival last year was not worth it, especially considering HUF 16 million went toward payroll.
Festival organiser György Durst told hvg.hu a detailed statement of Mediawave's costs was available online for anybody to scrutinise. "HUF 15 million was used to set up a facility to archive about 11,000 film and video recordings, and HUF 25 million went to creating a film foundation also viable on an international scale...that has the potential to become very valuable and generate significant income in the future," he said.
