The festival's organisers will start the programme with an awards ceremony to present Parallel Culture prizes to Czech film director Jirí Menzel, who is the festival's guest of honour, Hungarian film director András Jeles, ethno and jazz musician Ferenc Kovács, the actor, dancer, director and choreographer József Nagy, Canadian experimental filmmaker Mike Hoolboom and American saxophonist David Murray, said Mediawave Foundation chairman György Durst.
A jury has selected 61 films to participate in competition at the festival, and another 30-40 will be shown as part of the programme. The films were selected from more than a thousand applications, Durst said.
The films in the competition will be evaluated by an international jury including the Hungarian writer Zoltán Kőrösi, the Hungarian film director Ferenc Török, the Russian director Ella Davletshina, the Iranian actress-director Samira Sinai and the Canadian filmmaker Mike Hoolboom. A five-member student jury will also assess the films at the festival for the first time.
A retrospective of the films of István Gaál, the great Hungarian new wave director who died last year, will also be shown.
On the festival's musical programme will be David Murray with his Black Saint Quartet, the Campbell Brothers, who mix black folk, with blues and spirituals, and the Norwegian singer Kristin Asbjornsen, said Mediawave director Jenő Hartyándi.
Ten Years After will recreate the mood of Woodstock at a concert on the banks of the Danube.
