The festival organisers have picked the best films from some 1,250 submissions from 66 countries to show at Mediawave. Many have won prizes and some have never before been shown in Hungary. Films from Romania will have a special place at this year's festival.

The festival will launch with performances by Astirello from the Argentina and Amor Sosa with the Afreecanos Quartet from Cuba. Jazz lovers will appreciate performances by Lee Konitz with Minsarah and Jamaaladeen Tacuma with Coltrane Configurations.

A one-day festival within a festival will pay tribute to Jimi Hendrix. The Thanks Jimi Festival will involve a number of Hungarian and foreign rock musicians who will all join together at the end of the day to play the Hendrix standard Hey Joe.

Mediwave will again run workshops with foreign and Hungarian acts who will also perform together. Love Grocer, founded by the horn section of the style-setting British dance-dub band Zion Train, will join forces with the new Hungarian reggae band Újkut HK. The phenomenal Czech drummer Pavel Fajt will head a percussion group named Drummediawave. The French band Pulcinella, which was among the most popular acts at last year's festival, will have a workshop with Dzsindzsa. The American poet and saxophone player Lewis Jordan will team up with Hungary's István Grencsó to bring a new angle to the big band format with the participation of Austrian and Hungarian musicians.
