The Dave Holland Quintet is one of the top contemporary jazz performers in the world today. In 2005, Dave Holland was voted ?jazz musician of the year? and ?bass player of the year? by the respected jazz magazine Down Beat. The magazine also chose the Dave Holland Quintet as the second best acoustic band after Keith Jarrett?s Standards Trio.

The International Improvisational Music Workshop, formed three years ago, is a group of musicians from Hungary and other countries in Central and Eastern Europe under the leadership of veteran US bassist William Parker and drummer Hamid Drake.

Marc Ribot is a leading figure on the New York avantgarde jazz/underground music scene. Audiences at the 2004 Mediawave heard Ribot play with John Zorn?s Electric Masada, and this year, he will return with a new trio called Ceramic Dog.

As in 2004, the Dutch presence will be strong at Mediawave in 2006: the Tomas Delius 4tet, the Eric Vloiemans Band, and Boi Akih are all on the programme.

Some of Norway?s increasingly popular contributions to the jazz scene will also play the festival: the soloist Terje Insunget will play, as will the drummer Pal Nilsen-Love, together with his trio The Thing. Nilsen-Love played to great acclaim at Mediawave in 2005 together with Ken Vandermark.
