Between 150 and 200 people attended the dedication of the pillar, including Pál Lelovics, President of the Hungarian Civic Association of Brno, the memorial?s initiator, Hungarian Ambassador to the Czech Republic László Szőke and many students and faculty from the Miklós Zrínyi University of National Defence.
A letter from Hungarian Minister of Defence Csaba Hende was read at the dedication.
The pillar was placed next to one erected in 2006 by the Association of Czech and Moravian Hungarians in Brno.
Napoleon?s army defeated an army commanded by Tsar Alexander I and Holy Roman Emperor Francis II at the battle of Austerlitz, today Slavkov u Brna. The pillars are in nearby Telnice.
Historic records show two units ? generally with 1,300 troops - of Szekler border guards fought in the battle. The number of Hungarians who died is unknown.
