It was in that institute in 1936 that Karinthy underwent a life-saving operation to remove a brain tumour by Herbert Olivercrona, the famous professor of neurosurgery.

One of the most popular Hungarian writers, Karinthy described his related experience in an autobiographical novel entitled "Journey Round My Skull", first published in 1939. The bilingual plaque will be inaugurated in the presence of the author's grandson, Marton.

"Stochkolm was closely associated with my grandfather's lifework. The operation carried out in Karolinska extended his life by two years and enabled him to write a novel that crowned his oeuvre," he said.
