Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany, Defence Minister Imre Szekeres and Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Andras Havril attended the ceremony.
Batthyany was executed by firing squad on October 6, 1849 after the fall of the anti-Habsburg uprising and posterity has placed an eternal flame on the Budapest site where he was killed.
