The film tells the story of a mother and her two daughters, going back in time to recall an unfulfilled love the mother, now dying, experienced 40 years ago.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that Streep will star with her 23-year-old daughter, Mamie Gummer, for the first time since their brief appearances together in 1986's "Heartburn" and 1993's "The House of the Spirits", playing the same character at different stages in her life. Vanessa Redgrave and her daughter Natasha Richardson will also play a mother and child on screen. The film also stars Toni Collette, Patrick Wilson, Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy.
Koltai, who is a renowned cinematographer, recently made his directorial debut with ?Fateless?, based on Hungarian writer Imre Kertesz?s novel of the same title. The film, made shortly after Kertesz won the Nobel Prize in literature, met with critical acclaim when it premiered in the US.
Filming of ?Evening? has started in Rhode Island. The cinematographer for the production is Gyula Pados, who also worked with Koltai on ?Fateless?.
