Minister Names New Cultural Attachés

"We are sending cultural attachés to different points in the world that are capable of presenting the country's image, culture and education, as well as working on joint projects in the countries they are in," Hiller said at a press conference to announced the appointments.

 
Hiller said 33 people had applied for the posts, but the decision on each of the appointees had been unanimous.
 
Gábor Nagy has been appointed to become the cultural attaché in Beijing, Mrs. Judit Éva Nagy-Hajba has been named for the post in Shanghai, the post in Tel Aviv will go to Eszter Lányi, Klára Szentgyörgyi will serve in Belgrade and Lídia Jósvai will take the post in Zagreb.
 
All of the appointees speak the language of the country they are going to, and all have cultural management experience, Hiller said. They have also demonstrated they possess diplomatic skills and they are innovative and creative, he added.
 
The new posts will be supported with a combined budget of HUF 220 million from the ministry next year.
 
The new cultural attachés in Beijing and Shanghai will take their posts as earlier as the end of September. The appointee for the post in Tel Aviv will start at the end of November, and Hungary's cultural attachés in Belgrade and Zagreb will start work in January.
 
Next year, the ministry has plans to appoint cultural attachés for posts in Spain and the Unite Arab Emirates.
