Ministry Transfers Money for Statue Renovation

English

With the transfer of the money, which is expected to cover about half of the cost of the renovation, a public procurement tender can now be called.

The tender will be managed by the Romanian side, but the Ministry of Education set two conditions for its support of the project: that the statue should remain in its prominent position during the renovation and that the plinth should be restored using the same limestone from northern Hungary as the original.

Deputy Mayor of Cluj Attila László said the statue by János Fadrusz, which was inaugurated in 1902, had to be completely renovated. The foundation on which it rests is sinking, and the plinth is cracked in many places. Bronze details also need to be repaired.

The public tender for the renovation will be called after a local council meeting on March 10.
