(MTI) - The festival, lasting from June 9 to 19, will feature all the stage works of Bela Bartok and such masterpieces of Giuseppe Verdi as Aida, Nabucco, Rigoletto and Il trovatore, said Laszlo Mehes.
Verdi's lesser-known Il corsaro will first be performed on a Hungarian stage.
Foreign performers are scheduled to arrive from Prague, Zagreb, Bratislava, Cluj, Moscow, Salzburg, Stuttgart and Bayreuth, he said.
The programme will in part be dedicated to Franz Liszt, marking the bicentenary of the great Hungarian composer.
Don Sanche, a Liszt opera composed at the age of 14, will be performed as a co-production of Hungarian, German, Austrian and Slovak musicians.
