More Museums Join Autumn Festival

English

Museums will complement their collections with music, dance, theatre and literary events during the festival. A programme about museums and learning will allow visitors to see areas of museums usually closed to the public.

The aim of the festival, which will be held for the fourth time this year, is to show the cultural heritage preserved in the country's museums to coming generations, said Ministry of Education and Culture State Secretary Márta Schneider. The festival offers a longer timeframe than the Night of Museums event in June, she added.

A central event of the festival will be the opening of the 7th Museum Learning Season, which draws attention to the role of museums in education and shows what new programmes museums have on offer for groups of students as well as teachers.

Visitors to Budapest's Military History Museum can make model machines of war , restore paper and see a demonstration of Medieval warfare during the Museum Autumn Festival.

The number of museums participating in the Museum Autumn Festival has grown from 75 in 2007 and 110 in 2008.

For the first time this autumn, Hungary will participate in the Big Draw, a global campaign to promote creativity and fun through drawing. On October 10, museums, as well as libraries, galleries, schools and community centres around the country will invite visitors to take up pencil or brush and create something.
