The Christ Trilogy at the National Gallery
The giant canvases are being shown in the same room in which ?Christ Before Pilate?, one of the three paintings, went on public display 130 years ago.

The first of the three paintings, commissioned by the Paris-based art dealer Charles Sedelmeyer, was one of the main attractions at an international art exhibition the Künstlerhaus hosted over 45 days in 1882.

Munkácsy completed the trilogy later with the additions of ?Gologtha? and ?Ecce Homo?.

Munkácsy?s Trilogy can be seen at the Künstlerhaus in the show called ?Munkácsy ? Magic and Mystery? from March 31 until June 3. It is the first time all three paintings will be on view together in the Austrian capital.

The Trilogy drew about 250,000 visitors when they were on display in the Hungarian National Gallery between November 2010 and October 2011.

From Vienna, the Trilogy will return to its permanent home in Debrecen?s Déri Museum.
