Kiss, who was presented a lifetime achievement award by the International Society for Performing Arts (ISPA) just a few months earlier, received the honour from the state of France for his work promoting culture in France and in the world.
In a laudation, Laquieze said MUPA, under Kiss?s direction, had ?been brought to the forefront in Europe in a brief moment?.
Upon accepting the award, Kiss noted that it was an acknowledgement not only of his own work but of the work of his colleagues at MUPA.
As the founder of the Budapest Spring Festival, Kiss has long built bridges between East and West, and he has ?brought home? a number of Hungarian artists working abroad. Kiss has also left his mark at the National Philharmonic, the Hungarian State Opera and Budapest?s Comedy Theatre.
Many outstanding French artists have performed at MUPA under Kiss?s watch.
