The Wagner specialist Christian Franz will sing Tristan and Anna-Katharina Behnke will play the part of Isolde in the production, which is directed by Magdolna Parditka and Alexandra Szemerédy.
The young pair of directors proved with Parsifal in 2006 that MUPA?s Bartók National Concert Hall was capable of hosting a big opera production, said MUPA chief Imre Kiss.
Preparations for Tristan und Isolde, involving 50-60 staff, have been underway since the middle of April.
Conductor Ádám Fischer, who established Wagner Days, said Tristan und Isolde was a ?full production?, not a partial staging.
In spite of the large space at MUPA, every sound and gesture in the production can be felt, said Szemerédy. The connection with the audience will be totally real, she added.
The concept for the production ? in line with the wish of Ádám Fischer ? was to bring the piece closer to Medieval poet Gottfried von Strassbburg?s rendering of the Tristan saga. Thus the roles of Brangäne and Kurwenal, sung by the Hungarian Judit Németh and the Pole Tomasz Konieczny, respectively, have a greater weight.
The production can be seen three times until June 16.
Opera lovers can see the entire Ring cycle over four evenings during Wagner Days.
Next year?s Wagner Days will start with a premiere of Lohengrin.
