MUPA chief Csaba Káel said the 400 participants at the IAMA meeting represent some of the world?s most important performers, soloists and ensembles, from the New York Philharmonic to the Budapest Festival Orchestra.
Guests at the event on Thursday were shown a short film about MUPA, after which Káel spoke about the art centre?s activities.
Káel said that in the current economy in Europe, it was especially important for cultural events such as the ones hosted by MUPA to be put in the spotlight.
He said the London-based IAMA had held its conference in Prague, but had never come as far into Eastern Europe as Budapest. He noted that little lobbying was necessary to bring the meeting to the Hungarian capital, considering the industry?s curiosity about the country?s rich reputation for producing musical genius.
The 2012 IAMA conference will take place in Budapest on April 19-21. The theme of this year?s event is Effective Solutions in Hard Times.
