The concert, to take place on July 2, is part of ?Mahler?s Cities: Hamburg, Prague, Budapest?, Eschenbach?s tour of the most important cities in Mahler?s career.
Gustav Mahler was born in Kaliste, Bohemia in 1860, but he spent his youth in Prague. From 1888 to 1891 he was conductor and director of the Hungarian State Opera House. It was in Budapest where he premiered his Symphony No. 1 in 1889. He left Budapest to become principal conductor of the Hamburg City Theatre, where he stayed until 1897.
On the programme are works by Erkel (Hunyadi László ? overture), Mozart (Symphony No. 34 in C major, K 338) and Mahler (Symphony No. 1 in D major).
