The exhibition, which features 500 number plates, presents the history of Hungarian number plates from the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy until the present. It also shows a sampling of the Kenyeres brothers? massive collection of number plates from around the world.
Péter and Tamás Kenyeres, who live in Kecskemét, a city on the Hungarian Plain, started their collection with a gift from their father fifteen years ago. Today their collection includes number plates from 110 countries, including number plates from every state in the United States. The oldest item in the collection ? about one hundred years old ? is from Saskatchewan.
The two brothers would one day like to open their own museum to house the collection. In the meantime, they will continue to expand it and welcome any contributions.
In addition to the number plates, the Transport Museum is showing two motorcycles ? a BMW R71 and a DKW NZ750 ? with the original number plates and extras from the private collection of veteran mechanic Sándor Keserű as part of the exhibition.
The exhibition is open until January 31, 2007.
