The treasures, never before seen outside of Bulgaria, will be shown for 41 days in Nagykanizsa with the support of a HUF 22 million grant from the local council and a guarantee of about HUF 700 million from the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Finance Ministry, said Hungarian Poster Museum director Csilla Kőfalvi.

About 50 objects made between the 5th and 3rd centuries BC will be shown, among them the gold death mask of King Seuthes III, a life-size bronze bust, gold rings and containers made of clay and fine metals.

A copy of a Thracian burial chamber is expected to be built for the exhibition, and guides will be published in Hungarian and English, as the show is expected to draw not only Hungarians, but visitors from Croatia, Slovenia and Austria as well, said Kőfalvi.

The exhibition, to take place next spring, will be linked to the 2010 European Capital of Culture programme in nearby Pécs.

Nagykanizsa is the sister city of Kazanlak, the Bulgarian city near to where the ruins of Seuthopolis were found.
