New Nimród Antal Film to Close Titanic

English

Antal, who burst onto the international scene with his dark film about the Budapest underground Kontroll in 2003, tells the story of a couple who check into a hotel room only to find they have been trapped to become the next "stars" of a snuff film in Vacancy. The film stars Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson. Antal earlier told the Hungarian News Agency that the film had been made on a budget of USD 19 million.

The 14th Titanic Film Festival, which runs from April 12 until 22, features 64 films from 27 countries. Screenings during the 11-day festival are being held at the Uránia, the Toldi, the Örökmozgó and the Vörösmarty cinemas. The programme includes all kinds of films, from Sofia Coppola's third feature, the costume drama Marie Antoinette, with Kirsten Dunst in the lead, to Ferenc Török's Hungarian-German co-production Overnight, which shows 24 hours in the life of a Hungarian stock broker.

The films in competition will be assessed by a jury comprised of UK film critic Ronald Bergan, Göteborg International Film Festival director Marit Kapla and Hungarian director György Pálfi, whose films include Hukkle and Taxidermia. The festival's top prize carries a EUR 10,000 purse.
