New York Theme For Debrecen Jazz Days

English

The festival, in its 35th year, has gained an international reputation. In 2003, the festival?s organisers decided the event would focus on a different city in the United States for the following four years. St. Louis was the theme for Debrecen Jazz Days in 2003, New Orleans was the focus in 2004 and Chicago in 2005. This year?s festival will feature not only jazz musicians from New York, but presentations intended to evoke the atmosphere and even the tastes of the largest city in the US.

American performers on the programme for this year?s Debrecen Jazz Days, to be held at the recently completed Kölcsey Centre, are the Claudia Quintet, Kevin Mahogany playing with the Budapest Jazz Orchestra, Groove Collective, the Eric Alexander Organ Combo, the Sonny Fortune - Rashied Ali Duo, the Cedar Walton Trio, and Eric Alexander playing with the local Debrecen Jazz Ensemble. Hungarian performers will include the Kaltenecker Trio, the Imre Kőszegi Percussion Orchestra, the János Nagy Trio, Nikoletta Szőke and Jazzclusive, the Regős Trio, Deja Vu, the Debrecen Step Time Band, and the Debrecen Dixieland Jazz Band. The Armenian accordion player David Yengibarjan will also perform with his trio.
