No Buyers for Hungarian Picture at Sotheby?s

Speaking from the German city of Ulm, Fehér told MTI that he was first informed that the picture had been sold for close to the starting price of USD 29,000. But, around 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning, he received a text message from the seller, a Hungarian collector, that the picture had not been sold.

It should be counted as a great success that Sotheby?s six-member jury, formed of famous art historians, unanimously decided to include the picture in the auction house?s sale of contemporary art, Fehér said. He added that he wasn?t disappointed that the picture failed to sell, because sales at auctions such as these require strong lobbying and a powerful gallery, something which Hungary, and the region for that matter, still lack.

Fehér was in Ulm for the opening of an exhibition of contemporary art at the City Museum including his own works as well as those by his Hungarian peers Ilona Keserű, Károly Klimó and István Haász.
